I was weeding my front flowerbeds a couple of weeks ago when I ran across a “weed” that had a familiar tri-lobed leaf shape. Three days prior to that I had purchased maypops for a trellis I was planning for the back yard so recognized the leaf immediately. Sure enough, the weed turned out to be a “gift” from the birds. I dug it up and potted it. It got really droopy and I was sure I left too many of it roots in the ground when I dug it up. Last week I was gone for about 5 days and came home to a plant that had doubled in size and is actually doing better than the cuttings that I had paid for!

Every tri-lobed leaf on a vine in the wild triggers bad memories of having poison ivy. I know your plant is not poison ivy. It’s good you can recognize a jewel in the wild.

I know what you mean. 😳 I’ve uprooted many a baby Virginia creeper out of fear that she may turn out to be her evil cousin.
