I just got this very cool tradescantia clipping in water and I’m not sure what to do with it. Typically with tradescantia I just put the clippings right back in soil and they do fine. Should I keep this one in water until it grows roots, though, since it’s already in water?

Hi…that’s a pretty little tradescantia! I heard about bottom planting online and decided to try it. It’s basically planting smaller plant in the same pot with a larger plant. I have a yucca tree in my sunroom that’s in a huge pot. I planted a few clippings of tradescantia and as they grew longer, I just clipped and put them right back into the pot. The picture I attached was back in February. It’s now really full. I’m so glad I tried it. It’s a great way to save space and it looks really pretty.

I always prop my cuttings in water and they’ll grow roots fast and then I transition to soil and they do well
