Hello! I have this, what I believe to be, cylindrical snake plant, and when I got it all the shoots came up perfectly cylindrical. But now, the new offshoots are coming up open. I don’t mind the look, but curious if there’s a reason this is happening? For the first 2 years I had this plant it sat away from windows and got very minimal light, but also barely grew. I moved it more into the light now to try for new growth (which worked!) but the new growth just wasn’t what I was expecting. Again, happy either way but would love to know if it is because of better lighting or if this is normal for this plant. Any tips or recommendations for this plant to keep it happy and growing?

I have a cylinder snake plant that does the same thing. I've had it for about 6 years and just like yours it all of a sudden grew split shoots here and there. I assume it's normal but i really don't know.

I’m not a snake plant parent, don’t know much about them other than they’re succulents and can be finicky, but I do think the leaves opening like that has to do with the plants maturity. Older snake plants I see all tend to have their leaves opened and flat, vs all the 1’ and smaller ones I typically see are still shooting out cylindrical leaves to preserve their moisture better as they mature.

Ahh! Okay good to know it’s likely a normal growth pattern! Thank you:)

Here is a photo of my sansevieria fernwood (left) alongside my starfish sansevieria cylindrica ‘boncel’ (right). From your photo and the pretty arch of the leaves I wonder if you have a fernwood there and not a cylindrica? The cylindrica may start open, like you can see on the very far right of the plantlet, but is thicker and cylindrical at maturity. Fernwood starts off tightly rolled and opens as it matures; it is also taller than cylindrica.

Oooh!! Thank you! I agree, looks just like your sansevieria fernwood! Beautiful plants you have there, thanks for the comparison shot. Can’t wait for mine to grow nice and big like yours:)

Yes I think it’s a fernwood. Here are mine side by side. Fernwood and cylindrical.
