Hello! I recently got a string of turtles and I'm unsure what the best media is. I've seen some people recommend potting mix + perlite, and other people recommend succulent/cactus potting mix (with or without added perlite). I've also seen people call this a succulent and other people say it's not a succulent? I know everyone has their preferences but just wanted to see what you all are using for these and what your experience is. Also if anyone could maybe help explain why some people call them succulents and some don't, I'd love to get a better understanding of that too 😅 Pic of my turtles for fun 🙂

String of turtles is a Peperomia prostrata, they are often referred to as succulents (which is a plant that stores water, usually in its thick leaves. I think some people get hung up on "succulent" referring to a plant like Echeveria, but it can refer to any plant, tropical like this or desert that is a plant that retains water in this way) I personally pot mine up in a mix of cactus soil and peat free chunky mix w/perlite

Just make sure its a peat-free cactus soil. Peat retains too much moisture for cacti, or these guys.

Same! My master oogway had to be repotted recently and I was super nervous. I used a chunky cactus mix and he’s doing pretty well. He didn’t seem to go into shock and seems to have recovered well from the repot.
