    Loop the strands around in the top of the pot and pin them to the dirt with bobby pins. Then cover it with something, plastic wrap with like one or two small holes poked in the top, secured down with a rubber band would be adequate. But I use jars.

    I would suggest taking it out first, checking the roots to see what u have, cut off the yucky if there is any, and adding extra perlite into your current mix for extra aeration. Definitely safest bet to leave it whole and do Bobby pins.
