I noticed my Lady Valentine wasn’t doing as well as I hoped. The bottom leaves were fading. I dug through the soil to find two smaller pots within the self watering pot. Never repotted since purchasing a few months ago. Roots look really healthy though!

It’s the cage of death used by commercial growers to save space and costs. Sometimes it’s a bag of death. Luckily, you checked the soil.

lol completely agree. If you’re looking for tips on repotting, soak the roots for 30 minutes in a mix of 1 part hydrogen peroxide and 2 parts water, then gently dry the roots with a paper towel and repot in fresh, dry soil. Aglaonema are pretty hardy plants, but mine enjoyed a chunky mix the nursery put it in with a mix of orchid bark, perlite, and all-purpose mix (I use Espoma’s Organic All-Purpose mix and add perlite and some of their cactus mix. If you can’t find orchid bark, you can mix Espoma’s cactus and all-purpose mixes to give good drainage). Just make sure if you’re picking up an all purpose mix 1. It’s NOT miracle grow brand. It’s a plant killer, especially in humid climates, and will only kill a plant on recovery as it holds moisture for too long and uses too much peat, 2. The mix doesn’t have too much peat, as it holds moisture for too long, and 3. Has drainage and a chunky enough mix to help with drainage. Mine was in a simple plastic pot with drainage holes, and I bottom watered mine, but if you fear overwatering it, try a Terra cotta pot. They’re often cheaper than plastic ones. Hope this helps!

I will have to try that soil mix. I use indoor potting mix with extra perlite and bark for extra drainage. Hopefully she can bounce back and come back to life.

Sounds great! Feel free to come back if you need any help or have ant questions. If you can’t find Espoma, I’ve heard great things about FoxFarm’s Organic Ocean Soil mix. All the nurseries around me use both brands.

Many nurseries use these items even the small scale ones. It saves money. The bag/cages are a lot cheaper than nursery pots.
