Say hello to Monty 2.0 Hi guys wondering if I could get some advice on propagating my monstera! This is Monty! He became waaay too big for my one bed flat so I gave him to my sister! And I decided to take a cutting after googling propagation. I’ve just left it in a jar of tap water I’ve added close up pics too but should I do anything else? Some say trim the Ariel roots and remove the tight leaf as looks damaged but any advice welcome as this is the first time I’ve propagated

You’re doing exactly what I’ve done in the past. The new roots will form off the aerial root. Once the new roots shoot out secondary roots, it’s ready for potting.

This is exactly what I’m doing and my root is starting to form roots I’ve been told Monsteras take a long time to form roots, so be patient. A pothos leaf in the water is supposed to help, too, much like rooting hormone.

It’s a really common houseplant and small, so maybe a good addition to your place!

My monstera prop has been living happily in tap water since the beginning of summer, it took a while for good roots to form but it’s doing great now

This is how it goes. Don’t remove those aerial roots, that’s what will become the new roots of the plant. Wait until they get a few secondary roots on them then stick it in soil. 🙂

I add diluted fertilizer and SuperThrive plant vitamins when new roots appear. The water will get cloudy faster. So, you may have to change the water more often. The cutting needs bright light.
