I go between bottom watering and top watering. Only because our water is pretty hard so I try to flush some minerals out occasionally. It really just depends on how I’m feeling. I drain between each plant, I just feel like it’s less of a chance of pests being passed around.

2 Mi piaceI bottom water all my plants, then top water maybe once a month to flush out any excess minerals, and use different water for them each. After a while, I figured out how much to pour for each plant, and I reuse Tupperware containers that’ve lost the lids so each plant I’m watering that day gets its own pot to get water from. I then use the excess water to water my outdoor plants after the sun sets or in the early morning. I’ve found it’s kept my house pest free all summer, and my succulents and peperomia in particular seem to thrive from it, since bottom watering is said to help develop a stronger root system. Hope this helps!
3 Mi piaceVery much!! Thank you :)
0 Mi piaceIt’s important to top water at least some of the time for the reasons Kades indicated 👍🏻
3 Mi piaceI’ve started bottom watering to avoid overwatering and getting gnats. I’ll top water when I fertilize to flush the soil, as been mentioned, and to make sure the plant and soil get all the nutrients.

love bottom watering. my plants tell me how much they need, helps prevent fungus gnats, helps roots grow down and full. i add and drain between plants
1 mi piaceI love bottom watering. I water all the plants that need it at the same time in a big tray, which is way more time efficient.
