Spike and Sweetie They look great together!
0 J'aimeThe dragon tree is actually one of my first tropical plants! Most tropical plants require a specific soil. I use a mixture of sphagnum peat moss(water retention), orchid bark(drainage/aeration) and perlite(extra aeration) the key for the soil is to hold moisture evenly but also to allow looseness for roots and avoids root rot. Aeration is very important to also avoid root rot and do allow the soil to dry out between waterings. They both love indirect light, this means no direct sunlight, though the dragon tree can handle a tiny bit more direct sunlight, it’s important to note you may have crispy leaves or loose some of its color. As for the philodendron I just propagated some myself last week :) some grow them and let them hang, other pin them up the walls and around the wall as this “mocks” its natural habitat if you want that jungle vibe in your room/house. If not they just hang. Distilled water please! They beg you not to use tap with the chemicals in them as for most tropicals. Fertilizer I would use after a month or so, let them adjust, consider mixing old soil into the new so it can still feed off the remaining nutrients from the fertilizer. High humidity is important, especially if you live in a dryer climate! If not, mist them daily
1 j'aimeThanks so much this really helps! Do you know if there is already a soil mix for the dragon plant? Like a tropical plant soil mix?
0 J'aimeAbsolutely, I actually just did that seeming it’s premixed with fertilizer. I noticed there wasn’t much if any perlite, there is volcanic rock but I would buy perlite to add in :) it’s $6-8 for perlite and about $6-8 for tropical soil :) at least where I live
1 j'aime*note* the dragon tree will grow taller, producing a palm tree base look. In the far future you can propagate the stem and allow for extra nodes to grow and produce two branches and then you have another dragon tree to add in :)
