Hi! I just purchased a striped calathea a few days ago and I came home today to find all of my leaves curled up. Any idea what causes this? Watered and repotted Saturday morning. No signs of pests. Roots looked good. Fairly new to plants and appreciate all the help! Thanks!

Is the soil still moist? It’s hard to tell, but in the picture it looks a bit dry. This plant likes consistent moisture and humidity. Did you water with tap water or distilled? They’re very picky about tap water. I treat mine with fish tank treatment to make tap water safe.

It is pretty dry already actually! Tap is what I used, as of now that’s my only option. I’ll try to get some fish tank treatment to use moving forward. Thank you!

If you have a brita you can try to use that as well! Some say they have luck some don’t. I live in Ohio with very hard water and have resorted to just watering all of my plants with treated water. A large bottle lasts a long time as you only need a very small amount per gallon. Good luck!

Just go buy a jug of filtered water at the grocery store. Find out if there are places to buy (using recycled containers). You can buy a 5 gallon re-useable and a “pump” to easily get it out of the container. Calathea’s are heart BREAKERS. I only started having luck when I switched to filtered water and a lot of humidity around them

I think a drink will perk it back up alone no matter the water you use in the meantime. However, if you continue to water with tap, you will start to see browning tips and edges of leaves.

Perfect! I’ll water some now and get some treatment ordered! I think it’ll be good to have on hand anyway as I learn more about each individual plant. I do feel like my tap can be a bit harsh sometimes so that definitely makes sense.

That goes for misting also-no tap water.
