I decided to take on the challenge of repotting this aloe!! My friend’s relative didn’t want this aloe anymore and so she asked if I wanted it. Right now it’s on my back patio and I’m gonna give some pups to another friend and try to get them separated and in the ground. Here is the issue, it’s obviously heavy, I want to keep the big pot for the mother aloe or another plant maybe. Does anyone have any advice how to go about this without damaging the pot, aloes, or roots? I know I can’t save all of them but I would like to save as much as I can.

    Ooh I know this one! This is usually how I go about repotting large Agaves/Aloes: First get some kind of sheet to catch all the soil. Then tilt it over on its side and start banging the sides of the pot with your hands and rotate it. This should loosen the soil a bit. If it does not loosen after 5 mimhtes or so of this, water the plant until the soil is just slightly moist, NOT soaking. Then wait until the soil absorbs the water, probably about a vouple hours or so and try again.

    When I’m having trouble removing something from a pot I use a chopstick to loosen the soil at the edges, then push up with the chopstick gently through the bottom drain hole.
