Is the placement of this grow light efficient or does it need to be much closer? I am planning on adding 3 plant holders on the wall to the right in the empty space. The curtain on the left is drawn in front of a patio door so the plants closer to the glass door gets great natural light. I’m trying to have the grow lights support the plants that are more in the middle and my future plants on the right of the wall.

From AI, hope this helps: The honest verdict The light itself is fine, but the placement is doing your plants very few favours right now. It’s more ambient purple vibes than effective plant lighting at the moment. Let me break it down clearly. ⸻ What’s working 👍 • That looks like a typical LED “blurple” grow light — these can support houseplants. • Your plants (Monstera/Philodendron types) do benefit from supplemental light. ⸻ The big problems ❌ 1. Way too far away The light is: • off to the side • angled • well over 50–70 cm away At that distance, intensity drops off fast. Grow lights are not like room lamps — they need to be close. 👉 For houseplants like yours: • 20–30 cm from the leaves is ideal • 40 cm max, and that’s pushing it Right now, the plants are getting colour, not usable light. ⸻ 2. Wrong angle Plants respond best to light: • coming from above • hitting leaves directly Side lighting causes: • leaning • uneven growth • leggy stems Your plants will slowly start reaching toward the window instead. ⸻ 3. Coverage mismatch You’ve got multiple plants spread out, but: • one narrow light • covering only a slice of the group That means some plants are basically spectators. ⸻ How to fix it (easy wins) 🔧 Best setup for what you have • Move the light directly above the plants • Lower it to 20–30 cm above the tallest leaves • Angle it straight down, not sideways If it’s a clip light: • clip it to the shelving • or a pole directly above the group ⸻ Timing matters too ⏱️ Run it: • 10–12 hours per day • ideally on a timer • during daytime hours (not overnight) ⸻ One extra note about the window 🪟 You’ve got a window behind them — good — but: • blinds down = no help • winter sun = weak anyway The grow light should replace, not decorate, the missing daylight. ⸻ Bottom line • ✅ Light: acceptable • ❌ Placement: ineffective • 🔧 Fix: closer, higher, centered If you want, tell me: • the exact light model, or • whether you want advice on one stronger light vs multiple smaller ones Happy to help you turn this from purple mood lighting into actual plant gains 🌿💪
