I need to repot my bird of paradise plant, but not sure what to use for soil since this is my first time repotting it. I normally use the Fox Farm Ocean Forest potting soil for my plants and they have all been doing great with that, but I am not sure if that can be used for the BOP as well. Any suggestions or advice greatly appreciated!

Use any potting soil that drains well, the whole have to put in this specific soil mix is more of a suggestion than a must and it doesn’t really make a difference what soil you put it in since again drainage is all that matters. So don’t worry just put it in any well draining soil and you’re good. I know this from experience that soil mix is not what will or affect whether you plant thrives or not.

Def use the Ocean Forest and add an extra handful or two of perlite or bark. I don’t really agree with the advice above. Soil quality does make a difference, and ocean forest is an EXCELLENT base

All of my other plants seem to LOVE that soil. Ever since I switched they’ve been growing beautifully.

I’ve recently repotted my BOP in a similar soil mix to my monstera. It consists of potting compost (roughly 50%), perlite (25%) and orchid bark (25%)

I used regular potting soil and added a good pile of orchid bark and perlite to chunk it up a bit, the plant will let you know if it doesn’t like the medium
