Hi! I bought a new bag of soil to replant a jade. Unfortunately, I replanted it and found out a few days later it was filled with gnats. Now my apt is loaded. I tried the stickies, I tired the peroxide & water and I can’t seem to get rid of them. PLEASE ANY SUGGESTIONS? Have a great day!

You have to kill then at 2 separate stages, peroxide isn’t a great method to eradicate them. You can get beneficial insects that eat the eggs and larvae is the soil and leave sticky traps for the adults. If you don’t attack 2 life stages though you’re only treating the population and not stopping them.

Thank you so much. These are house plants do you still suggest insects? If yes, what do you suggest?

There’s a species of nematode that control fungus, fungus gnat larvae, and several other soil based diseases, Steinernema feltiae. This is the best option and I recommend putting it in every houseplant you have. They live there for up to 18 months and will not cause any problems in your home. You can also try lacewing larvae and they’ll spread out onto all the plants nearby to hunt down pests. The lacewings will not go running all around your house as there’s not food and water sources for them everywhere else, they’ll stay to your plants. There’s stores online that sell the nematodes as a mixture you add to water and treat like it’s a normal watering day, and then the lacewing eggs come on a paper card you hang in the plant.

Check out FGMN nursery online, they have SF nematodes for 15$ I would also continue watering in the meantime but let the soil dry slightly more between watering.

Fungus gnat Death drops from Happy Happy Houseplant. I tried everything for months and I was miserable. They were a tad expensive and it took a couple of months but they are GONE.

I use the yellow sticky traps and every few nights I’ll mist my plants with alcohol after all the lights are off. I’ve also heard that putting a layer of sand on top of the soil prevents them from laying eggs but I haven’t tried it so I can’t say if it works or not.
