has anyone ever moved with plants? i’m moving 14-15 hours away in about 20 days, and have no idea how to go about packing up my plants. i have somewhere between 25-30, so it’s not really THAT many. they’ll be one of the last things i pack up obviously, but like… how? i feel like i can’t put them in bags for that long, but i don’t want them to tip over during transit. if you know anything about canada, we’re going from sask (flat) to bc (mountains) so it’ll be a bit of a bumpy ride. anyyyy advice is very very greatly appreciated!!!

just pack them in together as tightly as you can — you can wrap in paper for anything that has a wide spread i’ve mixed with lots of plants several times now and it’s never quiiite as daunting at it seems

when i moved a couple hours away, i packed some of my plants into a tight box sitting up so they really couldn’t move, and wrapped the other ones individually in paper so i wouldn’t lose too much soil. that being said, i had to replenish the soil in a few that tipped a little during the drive, but really it wasn’t too much work. unrelated, where in saskatchewan are you moving from? i have family in saskatoon!

I just brought a bunch of plants to my mom over thanksgiving about 10 hours away- I packed them up the night before in a big plastic tote bin with a lid, and I balled up some newspaper and shoved it in any empty space so they didn’t clink around. And there was one pothos with some long vines, so I just swirled them around on top of everything else and they all did fine! I figured I’ve ordered plants online before and they were in the mail for several days, so 24 hours in a tote bin is nothing šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜‚

lol I didn’t either, I was stressing so hard about getting them all down there! My sister was like, ā€œgirl don’t you order plants online? If they can survive the postal service then they can probably handle a 12 hour car rideā€ and it just made so much sense lol.

agreed with everyone here! my little guys went in a tote with paper filling gaps so they wouldn’t bump each other and the bigger guys I put in my car up against other items so they wouldn’t fall over. for the bigger ones I also filled the top of the pot with paper in case they did fall over it would help a little to keep soil in.

I’m in BC, but very familiar with your drive :) I probably don’t need to tell you this, because you’re use to much colder temps than we are over here….but make sure their temp is okay for the drive. Have them in the car with you and if you hotel for a night bring them in with you.

Very good point! Tropical plants can freeze in a car within a 15 minutes drive from a plant shop. Keep the plants in a temperature controlled area or use heat packs if you have leave them in a moving truck or trunk.

I pack them like I'm shipping them. Fiberfil, corrugated cardboard wrap, plastic or bubble wrap. Then a heat pack if it's cold.
