Hi all, just looking for a piece of advice, I want to purchase a plant to go on this windowsill. My last one had to be moved because it gets an awful lot of direct sunlight so I need something that can cope with that and grow to a reasonable size. Any suggestions, please?

Do you need it to be pet safe or no?

Whoa so many possibilities for that space!!!! What’s “reasonable size” for you? Are you open to hanging plants or something more statement sized on the floor? Do you use the windowseat? Cuz my brain says that should be a plant family shelf lol

I’ve found my peperomia obtusifolias do great in my south-facing windows. They grow new leaves every week there. They’re pet safe, very easy-care as long as they’re in well-draining soil (I use Espoma’s Cactus Mix. Avoid Miracle Grow) and dry out completely between waterings. Some other pet-friendly options that I keep in my south-facing windows are goldfish and lipstick plants (very fun, surprisingly easy to get to flower, and come in really fun varieties. My current favorite is a Nematanthus Shady Lady Mae (attached is a photo of it). Goldfish plants are upright options. Last pick would be Hoyas. While I see you’re looking for upright ones, smaller starters or trellises versions, especially variegated ones or hardier types like Pubicalyx or Carnosa do really well in brighter light. My Pubicalyx (third photo) is a collection of 4 rescues from Lowe’s, and she is extremely low-maintenance. I personally prefer her off the trellis, but she looks lovely on one as well. 😊
