I got my first Alocasia a couple weeks ago and she dropped one leaf (I’ve heard that they only keep 5 ish leaves at a time and they can drop old leaves when growing new ones but I see any new leaves.) And now there is another leaf looking really bad. Could it just be needing more humidity? I don’t know what else it could want.. she gets bright indirect light

I had this same issue. I talked to a local plant store. She told me to mist the leaves everyday for alocasias. And I use a tray at the bottom and keep water in the tray so it grabs water when it can. I also trimmed the “burnt” looking leaves and repotted it with something different than standard potting soil.

Alocasias have no limit on the amount of leaves they can have; It all depends on the growing the growing environment. The more light they get, the more energy they have to keep a full plant with many leaves. Depending on where you live, they can adjust to your ambient humidity levels and might not require additional misting or humidity trays. Personally, by the looks of your leaves, I would be cautious with misting it as the yellowing could potentially mean overwatering. I have some of my Alocasias in soil and some in pon; All of which I let dry out in between waterings; It's just what I found to work for me.

I definitely never recommend leaving water under a plant unless it’s a bog plant. With an alocasia it will rot if and also alocasias are prone to fungus if you continuously mist the leaves. They require well draining airy soil, a good water regime. Don’t keep them wet all the time but if they’re dry for too long they’ll get grumpy. They like 60% or more humidity and they are prone to spider mites. My Polly had been doing this same thing and turns out I had spider mites 😵‍💫

I had this same plant and it did the same thing. Honestly it has been the most puzzling plant for me. I have not had success yet trying to grow one. My advice is make sure you have well draining soil, good light and use a humidifier. When I am brave enough to try again, that’s my game plan! Good luck.👍🏽
