Happy Saturday! When you bring a new plant home, should you immediately repot it, or should you wait a few days and let it acclimate to its new environment first? 🤔

Wait a few days. I honestly dont even repot until i need to go up a size. I just spray them w my pest spray

i like to wait a couple weeks, then do a total repot w new soil when it’s ready to come out of quarantine

it depends on where you got the plant from. if you got it from a big box store (like a hardware store like lowe’s or home depot) I would suggest if not repotting than at least checking that the soil isn’t terrible. but if you got it from a nursery or plant store then it’s probably okay to wait a little bit!

Agree. If I buy from big box, it’s getting repotted that day. I honestly have no trouble repotting immediately anyway. Only my ZZ Plant had a fit and I think he just doesn’t like repotting period.

I got my Coleus from a nursery, but it was outdoors and the SECOND I walked into my house a Fungus Gnat flew out and I drenched and repotted that hoe. She’s living her best life indoors now 🤭

i always repot immediately but that just because i’m a bit of a helicopter plant parent. and yes! if it comes from a big box store the soil is either a hydrophobic brick or a complete soup.

Wait a few days however, I only repot mine if I see the roots hanging out the drainage holes excessively. Or unless you can see that it’s some type of pest on the plant after you get it home

Repotting within 30 days can void the warranty from some nurseries like Steve’s Leaves. Check the warranty info. I avoid repotting quickly unless the plant is a rescue, has pests or is ailing, in general. I don’t repot before the the first 6 weeks if I can avoid it. Most of my hoyas have never been repotted because the roots don’t abundantly grow. I buy the size plant I want to keep as-is for at least a year or two before considering repotting. I repot pothos, philodendrons, monsteras and my queen of the night cacti because I want fuller plants. The photo shows a Hoya Nummularioides in its original 4” nursery pot after one season. Hoyas are happy without frequent repots. Other plants might get root bound.
