Trying to pick a name for this beauty. It’s hard to capture the color of the leaves accurately on camera for whatever reason, but they’re actually a very deep, moody plum purple. She’s quite the lovely goth girl, so I’m debating over a couple of names for her. So far I’ve got Valerie, Erica/Erika, Nora, Raven, Simone, and Naomi, but I’d love to hear anyone suggestions. For anyone interested in picking one up, she’s a peperomia caperata ‘red luna’ that I bought on Sunday from Ott’s Exotic Plants. TIA!

She was such a pleasant surprise. I’ve been hunting for one of these for a while, so when I spotted this biggin for $20, I really couldn’t pass it up 😊

Omg love the plant! I’m just a little kid so I don’t know that much about plants but I’m excited to learn!

Welcome to the plant community, Olivia! 😊 Peperomias a one of my favorite houseplants, especially for those just starting out. They can handle lower light conditions, and they are non-toxic, making them safe for homes with pets. The best type of peperomia to start out with would be a peperomia obtusifolia, as they can survive in cactus mix and don’t need extra humidity like other plants. The one I have in my post is called a peperomia caperata, which is a different type of peperomia. The biggest difference between the two is that the caperata type doesn’t like getting its leaves wet, so I’d recommend waiting until you get more used to having houseplants before trying that one out. If you’d want to try a peperomia obtusifolia out, I often find them in Lowe’s and Home Depot. Here’s some photos of what peperomia obtusifolias can look like 🌱 The one with “Penny” written on the pot is actually one of my first ever houseplants. Peperomias have become one of my favorite types of houseplants, and make up about a third of my collection. It’s great to hear from the next generation getting into houseplants and gardening. Good luck, Olivia! 😊

Totally unbiased, you should name her Nora

😂 (Well, I was thinking Nora after Norah Jones, but perhaps naming a plant after two Nora’s would be cool too 👀)

I have a Google doc specifically with a list full of names for future plants. That might sound silly, but I believe it’s bad luck not to name new plants, sorta like boats. Luna’s on the list, but I guess I was saving it for one with white or silver leaves 🤔 I do love that name, though.
