I have two new plants! I am in heaven right now. I am sort of new to taking care of plants. The two that I got today are a ponytail palm and a cactus. I also kind of rescued them from home Depot, the cactus had mold in the soil so I took the mold out and added some cinnamon. Any other recommendations on how to take care of these guys? I chose to him outside in full sun as the planta app told me. these are Bramble and Biana ❤️🪴🌱

also, best way to water these guys? I know how to water cactuses but should I just get a little bit of water from the hose for the ponytail palm?

As far as watering any plant goes, overwatering is more about watering too frequently as opposed to watering with too much water. When you do water your plants, water until it comes out of the drainage hole at the bottom and check the moisture of the soil with your fingers to see what it needs. 💚

i’m sorry to say this but the painted one is probably going to die. just letting you know so you don’t think you did anything wrong when it does. the paint blocks it from being able to photosynthesize properly. your palm is very cute!!

thank you! It did say that it had been painted and I was a little bit suspicious. I feel sad but we’ll give her a great life while she’s alive 😁

I can’t believe they painted that poor cactus… seriously such a death sentence, that’s messed up. I don’t understand the purpose of that whatsoever… as cacti will literally bloom beautiful flowers if they have enough light and are fertilized every now and then. You won’t get to watch her bloom, or even grow 😟

I have seen some people remove some of the paint so it’s able to photosynthesis a bit, and it slowly grows out of the paint. I’m not sure how you’d go about it tho, but it’s worth looking into. Maybe a rubbing alcohol/dish soap mixture? I would totally be taking a q-tip and running it through the creases, between the spines. What’s the worst that can happen? It’s going to pass if you do nothing.
