Hey plant mommies/daddies! New plant mom here and wanted to see if anyone knew what is going on with my Silver Inch plant. It seems like from the top to bottom, the stem is hollow and a dry up leaf is in there. Not sure how this happened but she still growing out of the side, just not upwards. Any tips/suggestions?

Show a picture of the entire plant including the soil. It’s hard to comment just on one leaf.

It does help. It looks like the older thicker main stem broke or was cut right above that large leaf. The plant may have tried to put out a new leaf at that node. But, it didn’t live and dried up along with the cut stump. The plant is, now, putting energy into the the thinner side branch. It won’t grow upwards at that cut stump. Tradescantias don’t typically grow upright. They are vines that run along the ground tapping in roots into the soil. They will hang off the edge of the pot. You have to put several cuttings into a pot to make the plant look fuller. They will branch as the cuttings get older growing over each other and making the plant look taller. I recommend you take cuttings when the plant gets one or two feet long. Put those cuttings back into the soil. No need to water propagate. The easier and faster method is to buy/get cuttings or starter plants and put them into a single pot. They will become a thick plant in a few months. My pic shows my purple heart tradescantia that propagated itself from a nearby plant into a large 18 inch pot of mint.🍀🪴

Thank you! I eventually gave away that plant. The dogs, especially the red one, likes to nibble on the mint.
