I can’t for the life of me figure out what plant this is — Planta doesn’t seem to list it in the results when I search. It’s clearly not doing very well. Any advice? Root rot?

If there are holes in the bottom of your flower pot, then I doubt it’s root-rot. The drying of the leaves can then only mean two things. Low humidity which means the leaves need to be misted to remain moist into every two or three days or you’re not watering it enough. If the leaves are yellowing and then browning, then that means that you’re overwatering it.

Misting isn’t super effective, but that may be for just indoors. Try a pebble tray or humidifier if indoors, also if you wanna go through the effort use a clear tube and cover the plant for a few hours after in indirect sunlight. I’ve done it for smaller plants to get the humidity up.

Looks like maybe Canna paniculata to me? When flowering, it should produce red/orange flowers. This plant obviously does not have the energy supply to be blooming. I would take it out of the pot and check the roots, maybe give them a good trim and check the drainage of your pot. If the roots are dry give them a good soak in a bucket. When you repot keep the soil nice a loose or use some chopsticks to poke holes deep in the soil for good o2
