I think this is a calathea not a ZZ. They need to be watered a lot more often than ZZ so maybe this is why is it yellowing/browning.

I think you might be right! Here’s another shot of it with the good leaves. They have a peach fuzz feeling to them. The tab in the pot when I bought it said: RAVEN ZZ. I’m confused now. ☹️

Definitely not a raven ZZ, this is my raven it is super dark and different plant entirely. I’m not sure of the exact variety but I think yours is a calathea of some kind.

Never trust the tabs in the pots unless you know. 😁 People pull those to read them then stick them back in the wrong plant.

Yeah def not a zz plant. Planta identifies it as a velvet Calathea and Calatheas do that to their edges when they get too much lime from tap water. They need distilled water.

Also stick your finger in first-second knuckle deep and make sure it’s not wet. If it is, snooze plantas water reminder. It’s a good tool but not perfect.

Oof, that must be tough. Thinking you were buying an easygoing ZZ when you were actually getting a finicky calathea. Just FYI, calatheas typically need a bit more sunlight and water than ZZs. They like their soil to be constantly moist. I’d also recommend creating a humidity tray for it to sit on unless you have a humidifier. Good luck!
