Hello! I’ve been into plants for about a year and a half now and up until now I’ve never used a fertiliser. I felt like my plants needed it this winter though bc it’s been a long one already 😂, so I brought this one from Charlie’s the other day. I didn’t know whether to go for a super expensive one or one that costed 50p, so I went somewhere in the middle. I’ve been following the dosage instructions but does anyone have any recommendations for my next one? Keeping in mind that I’m still in school so I’d rather not fork out on anything too expensive 😂. Thank you! X

ive been into plants for a good few years now and the only time i used a fertiliser (i think it was bio grow or something) it actually did damage to my plants so i never bothered since. in my opinion, as long as you keep your plants watered and warm and healthy, a fertiliser is optional (in most cases). hope this helps :))

i strongly disagree with this one. most houseplants will use most of the nutrients in your potting soil before it’s time to repot again. adding a little bit of fertilizer, at minimum once a year, is essential for happy, healthy, and thriving houseplants.

Fertilizer is necessary. It helps feed the nutrients it may be lacking in our environment inside.

oh, along with supplying the nutrients that become depleted from the soil over time.

i purchased a thing of joyful dirt from amazon (usa) a few years ago for about $10 and it’s still 2/3 of the way full despite having a sizable collection and fertilizing regularly. i chose this brand bc it’s a powder concentrate with added mycorrhizae (beneficial fungi). the powder simplifies things for me because if i don’t have time or energy to dilute the fertilizer first, i can just sprinkle a pinch on top of the soil and water it in

To be honest I think it’s interesting that this is so hotly debated (and I don’t have all the answers). I think some plants benefit more from fertilizer than others, and certain plants prefer certain fertilizers at certain times. As I understand it, the issue is that as you water your plants you leach out nutrients, so right when you replant them they don’t need anything but maybe six months later they will (and even then, some species thrive in poor soil). Plants that need frequent watering will probably also need fertilizing sooner and more often. So it’s more like “try it out, if you notice a difference keep it up.”

I love Superthrive too. I use it every 2-3 watering and they love it. It’s a game changer.

What I am referring to is actually this. It’s Superthrive AND Dyna Gro Foliage Pro Plant food Fertilizer all in one. One company may have bought out the other and/or they are working together and created new product with this new label. Now I don’t have to use both separate. I can do one and done! Works great with hydroponics as well.

Dyna Gro Foliage Pro is what I have used in the last few years and when so went to buy more the label changed and that’s what I found so I went with it. 🙂
