Hi all. There’s something wrong with my Swedish ivy. She seems to be losing leaves and they feel quite soggy. I don’t know what happened. I haven’t repotted her or done anything different and she was fine for the longest time up until now (first pic is of when she was healthy) Please help. :(

Could it also be insufficient lighting? Too much water and too little light leads to dead roots, dropped leaves, and a stringy plant. I recommend watering when the plant is dry as stated above. Also, verify the plant has sufficient light. Check for root damage. Good luck🍀🪴

Hi, thanks. No, I don’t think that she is getting insufficient light. She has been in the same spot on my shelf the whole time that I had the plant, and she has been fine for several years, up until recently. I haven’t changed the watering schedule either, and she does dry out in between waterings but not to the point where she’s bone dry. Should I be making sure that the soil is always at least moist?? I’ve also changed the soil recently thinking that it would help, which it didn’t, but the roots appeared to be okay.

Sounds like you have checked all the problem points and even repotted. No root rot and watering is fine. Plus, same lighting for years. The only other things to check could be a stretch like new fertilizers or additives. Some fertilizer formulation can change. The other is water type or contamination. Did you change to distilled or move from rain water to tap water? Did the city flush the water lines before the plant started to drop leaves. A lot of minerals are released after the city flush water lines leaving the tap water yellow or cloudy for several hours. These are all b wild guesses. Temperature changes can affect plants causing leaf drop. My energy efficient thermostat will reduce the room temperature if no one pass by it. I had to adjust it since I brought my tropical plants in for winter. It was too cold for the plants. I can’t think of anything else. 🍀🪴

Have you checked the roots recently? Sometimes plants look really healthy but their roots start to degrade without our knowledge. I would check her roots and cut off any that look dead! I would also suggest propagating a few of the living vines to salvage her incase she doesn’t survive. Also, if her root system is small after cutting any dead ones off, I would replant her into a smaller pot (with drainage holes)
