Currently fighting the urge to throw half my plant collection in the green bin due to a thrip infestation 🫠. Went to buy new potting soil today and ended up with more plants following me home, of course.

I’m so tempted to do the same because the thrips are KILLING my money tree. Odd enough, it still has growth so I don’t know what to do anymore. It also doesn’t sit with any other plants because I’m scared they’ll get it.

They’re terrible! I would find them from time to time on some plants, but then about a month or two ago they started devouring my monstera. By the time I realized what the problem was, my monstera was in terrible shape and they have now almost killed 2 of my other plants as well, on top of spreading to several others. I’m going to repot the worst ones to get rid of the old soil (and any eggs) and take the opportunity to rinse the leaves and stems off as well as I can, but at this point I’m misting my entire collection with neem oil solution regularly to prevent them spreading any further.

I agree. I bought an insecticide and it worked.. I just don’t know how much.

Oh no! I got a clearance monstera albo around thanksgiving that had thrips. I cut off one of the leaves that seemed the be heavily infested. Wiled down the whole plant. Repotted, spraying roots with hydrogen peroxide. Added systemic granules to the soil when I watered and am continuing to treat with insecticide weekly. I also but a sticky trap in the soil of a few of my plants to trap adults. It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve seen any and the albo is doing much better. Systemic granules for the win here! I think these were the key. Everything else is supporting the effort.

You bet! Happy to help if you need anything. The systemic granules essentially make the plant poisonous when the thrips eat it, breaking the lifecycle. Insecticide and all the other efforts will kill what’s already alive. Neem oil repels bugs, which is good, but not super helpful after you already have them

Which brand do you use? I looked it up on Amazon but I’m not sure if I’m looking at the right thing 😅. Really hoping I can use this on my larger plants to make sure they’re totally gone.

I use bonide, I’ve attached a pic here! They typically have it at my local plant nurserys and lowes/Home Depot are sure to have it too.

Welp, I did some more digging and turns out a chemical in systemic granules is banned in Canada 🇨🇦. So none of the products are available for purchase here 😩. I’ll just have to keep spraying. Too bad, it seemed like a god-send 😂.
