Hi plant peeps! ā¤ļø I need string of pearls help! The picture on the left is of my SOP about two months ago. and the other pic is my SOP currently. It’s definitely shrinking and dying but i’m not sure why. I can’t tell if i’m overwatering or under watering or if it’s another problem. I water about every 3 weeks as planta suggests if that’s helpful. Lmk if you have any questions and i would love your input on how to save my SOP!! Thank you! 😊

Underwatering is very easy to indicate because the pearls shrink and get a divot along the clear line on the pearl. They’ll eventually shrivel and at that point it’s hard to get them to re-inflate. If you aren’t seeing that I’d say it’s either overwatering OR too little light, or both. From what I’m seeing the pearls that are dying look to be rotting not shriveling so I’d guess it’s an overwatering situation. All succulents need a good 8 hours of bright light a day. Also soil plays a huge part, if they are in normal potting soil you should repot and put them in a nice chunky well draining succulent or cactus mix.

Do not listen to planta for watering advice. It’s okay but when you get on to harder plants it is not good. I use a stick and poke to bottom if dirt comes off then not ready to water just yet. Bright bright sunny window

definitely do not use Planta’s watering recommendations! use them only as a reminder to check your plants. I use a chopstick, like Mya does. kind of like the cake test. if your chopstick comes out clean, water your pearls. and water thoroughly, letting the water drain out of the drainage holes. pearls also need direct sun on the crown/top of the plant. I have one of mine directly in a south window and the other is a foot away but with a grow light on top. it’s imperative to their growth to give them that much light!!!
