This is what I did to get rid of my fungus gnats: -Quarantine the plant from your healthy plants. -Repot: completely swap the soil. Rinse the plant under the water to try and get all of the infected soil off. (I try to keep my soil mixtures in a vacuum sealed container to prevent pests & moisture). -When watering the plant, make sure to use mosquito bits (I put mine in a mesh bag, let it sit in distilled water for a bit). Ensure the water drains (I usually water my plants over my sink). Let it dry out between waterings. Continue to use this solution (water+mosquito bits) until you no longer see pests. -Use sticky yellow traps to help kill the adults
0 Likesomg thank you. how long does a bag of mosquito bits last you? i’ve seen them but they seem expensive so i wanted to find out how long they last first. if they last a good while it’s worth getting but i don’t want to spend too much money too often.
1 LikeI’ve only purchased it once and still have it. I usually scoop like, a few tea spoons into a small mesh bag into about 1 cup of distilled water (or 2 cups, depending on the size of the plant). Let it steep in the water for about 20-30 min and then pour it into the soil / toss out the used bits and let the mesh bag dry. I bought the mesh bags and bits off of amazon
0 LikesYou can work Mosquito Bits granules into the soil to systematically kill larvae in the soil. You can use a Dawn soapy water spray, commercial insecticidal spray or Neem oil to kill the flying adults. Also, watch for prolonged wet soil. The larvae needs that to thrive. They live off the plant roots.
