Hi plant friends, I have a question about the Ficus Audrey I just got today! As the picture shows the leaves of my plant have sort of a camouflage pattern/dots, which I don’t see on other’s ficus. I thought it could be variegated but the pattern doesn’t look like the variegated ones. Any idea what it might be? Pests? Illness? I did get it on a huge bargain so hopefully it doesn’t have any serious issues šŸ¤žšŸ¼šŸ˜©

Does it come off when you wipe the leaf with a damp towel? Sometimes I’ve gotten plants with hard water spots if the nursery it came from has a lot of mineral in their water

It didn’t go away after the wipe, the light green pattern on the leaves aligns with the vein underneath

Mine is doing the same things and I’m not sure why, the tips of the leaves are slightly droopy as well

The Ficus Audrey, also known as Ficus benghalensis, is a popular houseplant with large, glossy leaves. The leaves of the Ficus Audrey are typically a rich, dark green color, but some varieties may have variegated or camouflage-like patterns on their leaves. The reason for the camouflage pattern on the leaves of the Ficus Audrey, or any variegated plant, is primarily due to genetic mutations. Variegation in plants, including the development of patterns, stripes, or mottled coloring on the leaves, is often the result of genetic mutations that affect the distribution of chlorophyll or other pigments in the plant's cells. These mutations can lead to areas of the leaf that lack chlorophyll, resulting in lighter or differently colored areas, which can give the appearance of a camouflage pattern. In the case of the Ficus Audrey, if a particular variety or cultivar displays a camouflage pattern on its leaves, it is likely due to specific genetic traits that have been selected and propagated by growers to produce this unique appearance. It's important to note that while variegated or patterned foliage can be visually striking and add interest to the plant, it can also affect the plant's ability to photosynthesize efficiently. Variegated leaves often have less chlorophyll than solid green leaves, which means that the plant may grow more slowly and require more light to thrive. If you have a Ficus Audrey with a camouflage pattern on its leaves, it's essential to provide the plant with appropriate growing conditions, including adequate light and proper care, to ensure its health and vitality.

Are all the leaves exactly like this one? If so, then I would agree with John3of3. I had a 6’ Audrey ficus and required a lot of light, so be sure to give it plenty (maybe even a grow light if not enough available).

Yes! There’re 3 trees in the pot all look like that. They’re put under a grow light next to a humidifier
