Hey everyone! Fairly new to plants so before I get carried away (lol), is there a reason why I shouldn’t add rocks to the top of my soil on my indoor house plants? I was looking to give them a better look. I don’t have a pest problem and I bottom water my plants. A picture of two I tried out for reference. 🙂

I do this with my calatheas so the soil stays moist for longer, definitely a good idea for plants that don’t like to dry out.

Thanks for the tip. I will need to go back through my plants to see which ones don’t like to dry out.

I do love small rock or pebble, but I did make the mistake of filling a large peace lily with some larger pebbles and new growth wasn’t able to push thru- now my new ones blooming are looking a bit deformed 😆 oops! Won’t do that again.

When you say weren’t able to push through, you are meaning that the big rocks were blocking parts of your stem? And this is a great tip to note. The ones that I got were small and I do believe I am going to decrease the amount in there bc I don’t want to stop the airflow.

Yes the rocks were too heavy for new growth to come thru.. I removed them all, and the plant started putting out new leaves again but one is deformed and shribbled.. and another leaf unfurled twins 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 I’ll see if I can get a pic to show you.

Oh wow that is interesting. Thank you so much for sharing. Do you have a picture of the rocks that you put in? I’m thinking mine will be small enough.
