Hi. So I posted yesterday about this plant asking what I should do, and someone suggested to repot her again because the soil has been wet since I watered it last Wednesday when I got it in the mail and then repotted it. I rinsed off the roots to see how it looked and they look like this. Is this root rot? Have I killed my baby before I even got the chance to enjoy her??? I just don’t fully know how roots are supposed to look and thought they normally are more white. . In the meantime of waiting for answers, I’m going to repot her and hope for the best.

You could cut those roots off and try rerooting in water. Or cut off to the next node (if there is one) and reroot in water.

That doesn’t look like root rot.x I would take off the dead leaves and pot in a very small pot, 3” diameter perhaps based on how little the roots are and make sure it has holes to drain.

Yes repot and add little extra drainage so the soil dry out a little quicker. Also, bright indirect light. I think they like staying moist but not wet. I had mine since late spring of this year.

your tradescantia looks a bit etiolated. they prefer almost full sun, at least 8 hours of direct light a day

i would soak the roots in a hydrogen peroxide solution for around 15 minutes, they don’t appear to be rotting but this will eliminate any bacteria or fungi holding onto the roots. replanting in a sterile potting mix would also be a good choice

For my future reference, what percentage of hydrogen peroxide to water do you recommend? Thanks.
