How important is humidity? Do any of you guys have high humidity preference plants in low humidity homes? All of my favourite cat safe plants prefer high humidity but my home doesn’t really meet this requirement! I’m not willing to fork out on a humidifier as I don’t have the money for a decent one and I worry about it causing mould in my home.. I know they probably won’t “thrive” in low humidity environments but will they stay alive at least if I meet all of their other care needs?

I mist the plants that prefer humidity, or move them to the bathroom while I take a shower. I’m also worried about damp in my house; I think UK houses are prone to it. I’d rather not cause structural damage to my property for plants 😂

I do the same! My boyfriend laughs at me when I have a bath and take all my plants in there with me 😂 I’m not bothered about them growing to huge heights or anything as long as they are healthy enough and not dying then I’m happy with them. Hoping they stay okay 🤞🏻🤞🏻

When I lived in southern CA, my humidity-loving plants looked sad without a humidifier. They stayed alive but would crisp around the edges if I let them dry out at all and were slower to grow. Putting a $30 humidifier near them was a game changer. The only plant that “looked” ok was my spider plant, but when I moved to FL that lady exploded in growth and throws out babies constantly (5 years later he’s still with me 😊).

I am in PA and I have only ever used the misting method. My house gets super dry when the heat is on. I had many years where I didn’t even mist and they did fine.

I’m in dry bones Utah, so I mist various plants as suggested either from Planta or from research and a little voodoo - I only have succulents, so the latter is necessary. Image is one that lives in Brazil and requires misting in the summer. I still feel like I’m guessing, though.

Unless you live somewhere that’s desert dry, it’s not as important as proper sunlight levels and consistent fertilizer. Misting does next to nothing, so I wouldn’t bother, it just leaves water marks on your plants. A large humidifier is the best way to go if you really need to boost your humidity levels and can also help ward off pests that love dry warm environments.

My home hovers around 30-40% humidity and when I did use a humidifier, I didn’t notice a difference. Now, for plants that require high high humidity (like my begonia that needs 70-90%) put them in a greenhouse cabinet, or under a cloche. I buy large vases from homegoods or Ross/tjmaxx and use them as cloches since they can get ungodly expensive after a certain size.
