Hello everyone. My spider plant has just been watered today…hence he’s a bit droopy! He’s normally in much better form! Just wondering, if I cut off the small bits that are coming out of him, what’s the best way to replant them? Do I hang them into a cup of water to start with to bring on the roots before planting? Grateful for any advice. Thanks so much.

So cute! I would definitely propagate in water first.

Spider plants are very hardy. You can plant them directly into soil or start in water as long as the spider babies have aerial roots on them before you cut them off. I would plant them directly into soil. Keep the soil evenly moist, not soaking wet, until the roots grow out. Use rooting hormone powder to give the roots a quick start. The pic shows a spider baby that was propagated in soil. They like bright light and higher humidity.

Amazing. Thanks so much for the information! That’s so cool the plant is your picture was from a spider baby! Awesome. Will give it a go and report back the results 🙌

Yes, this was a baby from a plant that went rogue and planted itself in the ground right next to my concrete patio. The mother plant was blocked from full sun by banana plants. The mother plant survived 5 days of a hard freeze last winter. I think the heat from the concrete kept it above freezing temperatures because the banana plants’ roots survived. So, I took 2 babies off the mother plant this summer and stuck them in nursery pots that used to hold oregano. 🤣
