I took my plants out for the summer. I have already brought in the majority of them. But I left my Boston fern, mum, a geranium and another small fern. I am in zone 7a. It was 36 this morning, so no frost. When should I bring my plants in for the winter? I hate they will be losing the bright sunlight during the day. They won’t get as much in my home.

I have never had luck with keeping geraniums or mums for the winter. The ferns will completely die and just come back in the spring if you leave them out.

Thank you. I didn’t realize the ferns would come back! And I’ve never had luck with the mums or geraniums coming back either. I was hoping bringing the in for the winter would help.

Yeah it is curl when the ferns come back too the way they look when the frond starts to unfurl

What about planting the mums in the ground? I’m in Pennsylvania and lots of people have planted mums that return yearly.

I wasn’t sure if they would come back next year! I will give it a try. I just didn’t want a dead plant I have to dig up next year. Never had much luck with them coming back. Should I do anything different? I have no outside plants in the ground.

I’m reading now and not all mums will return yearly. I suggest researching that. 😊

I’m going to do some research, they may end up over the bank with the rest of my poor dead plants.
