I believe for pebble trays to create & maintain the best humidity, they should remain on them and you refill as needed. I watched a YouTuber who said that misting / humidity trays / humidifiers aren’t useful because unless the plants are in an enclosed environment (like a cabinet) you can’t hit the levels of humidity they need, but I still turn my humidifiers on drier days and my plants are doing just fine. Hope that helps!

nooo😭 i am worried about getting a humidifier since I live an an apartment and someone told me it could cause mold to grow. have you had a problem with that?

I also live in an apt but as long as you have good airflow you should be fine! I don’t keep mine running all the time, it’s not even on daily (my plants are pretty grouped together to increase their humidity). I just have the humidifier pointed at them, give them a few hours here and there as a treat. Unless you keep your plants in one of those nice ikea cabinets people are creating into these beautiful ecosystems, a boost in humidity with the trays or a humidifier here and there won’t make a huge difference but still give your plants a little boost. If you YouTube JungleHaven she has a video where she creates a little humidity cabinet with her friend. That’s one way to make sure the moist air is contained so there’s no mold if you wanted to be hardcore with humidity. Other than that, just refill your trays as they get low and that’s also a cheap and easy way to boost some moisture in the air ⛅️

Pebble trays don’t provide the best humidity, honestly. It doesn’t ever truly make it TO the plant. The best way to add humidity is either a humidifier or a diffuser. I don’t have a humidifier but I have two diffusers that I use next to two specific plants that like extra humidity and it has worked WONDERS. Diffusers are often cheaper than humidifiers.

I have read that lemongrass, cedar, peppermint, and rosemary essential oils help with pests. Mainly peppermint and lemongrass, as those are natural pest deterrents. I often don’t put any oil in my diffusers but you certainly can if you’d like.
