Hi all! I recently got this plant (Dracaena Rikki - also called a corn plant?) from PlantVine. The first picture is from when they shipped it (Sep 27), the second is when it arrived at my house (October 2), and the third is what it looks like today. I did repot it on October 7(ish?) because I thought it might be root bound. I had Planta diagnose it and it said it was under watered, so I watered it and now it says it’s overwatered. It’s obvious to me that it’s dying (quickly), but I can’t figure out what’s wrong. It’s in a south facing window at an ambient temperature inside. Any advice? It’s a beautiful plant that I would love to save.

That is a lot of damage to have happened so quickly. Is it possible that it was exposed to very cold air?

I know - I was really shocked. I took it outside to repot it but I live in Louisiana so it wasn’t below 65-70. I’m trying to think if there was any other time it might’ve been exposed to cold like that. 😔

If it were, what could I do about it to help now?

It looks like the top of the plant is still OK, so I would just cut off all the dead leaves so the plant (and you 😊) can just focus on its growth from there. I live in Canada and I’ve unfortunately had this happen to some plants when I was moving in the dead of winter a few years ago, so that’s why I thought it might be cold shock. All of them recovered eventually though! Good luck 😊

I would say maybe give it time to adjust to its new home. It could have just went into shock from being shipped to being repotted. You did nothing wrong. Some plants are more sensitive than others. Make sure the soil is moist enough that the roots will grow but also not soaking so that it causes rot. Water when top 1in to 1.5 inches of soil is dry. Usually, water till it comes out the bottom then stop.

Thank y’all so much - I really appreciate the wisdom and encouragement! I feel a lot better. Going to trim off his dead leaves and keep a close eye on him. His trunk is healthy and so is the newer growth so hopefully we can get him back in shape. I’ve always loved to garden outdoors but I only started trying my hand at indoor plants this past year. I had never encountered something like this before so having the input of some more experienced plant parents is comforting! 💚 thanks again!
