I have a question, it might be a bit silly though... if plants have roots to drink water and nutrients and also to stabilise them, then a plant with a lot of roots is hunting for more water and nutrients? Someone asked me this and I didn't know how to answer

Basically yes, as a plant grows, it’s roots grow and take up space, just like any living thing grows. Now, in the case of a root-bound plant, yes it needs more than the pot it’s currently in can give it, more soil, more water, but because of its confines, it can’t get the things it needs to live well. So it grows and grows, seeking out what it needs and not finding it, stunting it’s growth in some cases. I don’t know if I’d call it “hunting”, but definitely searching. All plants do this, and just because one plant has a small root system, doesn’t mean it’s not hungry/searching for resources to survive.

Ok that's very true, thank you. As for the "hunting" I didn't know what to call it so I said the first word that came to mind 😅😂
