Hello all. Somewhat beginner plant enthusiast here. I have a parlor palm that is doing quite well. Lots of new growth and new fronds everywhere but today I noticed a white coating on the top of the soil that looks like mold. I’m reading conflicting things ranging from normal to gotta get rid of it. Any thoughts??

Not a palm expert by any means so hopefully others chime in, but what I think may be causing it is the size of the pot. Because it's much larger than the palm, the plant can't absorb the water fast enough and it's kinda sitting in there. You may want to downsize (or use a smaller plastic one inside cuz that's a pretty pot!)

looks more like mineral build up than mold to me. do you use tap water for your parlor palm? either hard water or softened water can cause mineral buildup like this on the soil
