Query - I have some plants that want re-potting but it’s already getting chilly here in Central Valley ca - I’ve heard it’s best to repot before growing season, but if they’re getting root-bound, is it worth doing now?

I would suggest doing it but just be carful and mix your own potting soil I suggest orchid mix, perlite, and gardening soil ! Mix that all and put the orchid mix on top for protection! Also depending on the plant use a large is mid pot if they are root bound :3
3 LikesWhat specific plant needs repotting? Will it remain outside and be affected by temperature changes or is it an indoor houseplant? How bad is the root bound issue? Is it blocking drainage causing wilting or root rot? I would say repot if it’s an indoor plant AND excess roots are impacting the health of the plant. You probably don’t need to immediately repot if the plant looks healthy and only the roots are coming through the drain holes. Then, clip the roots and repot later. Repotting puts stress on a plant. But, it should not permanently harm it.

Thanks @lilly & @sunny for sharing your experience 🩵 they’re indoor plants AND we don’t have central heating/air so there are indoor temperature changes. A few I’ll probably leave, the more sensitive plants, and the more hearty/really really rootbound I’ll wait till spring 🌼 Was out of town through the summer so wasn’t able to keep a close eye on them the way I usually do 😅

If it’s root bound, it’s best to repot even though it’s not prime growing season. They’ll be fine!
