hi!, I just received this string of pearls cutting from a friend. i’m new to the string of things family, so i was wondering if my layout looks okay? is it too crowded ? also for those who have a string of pearls, do you recommend bottom watering or top watering ?

I had a lot of success just putting the cuttings in palm/succulent potting mix. Not the really gritty stuff yet. Mine are growing like crazy. They’re in a south-facing window and I top water them. Good luck!

Looks good but maybe thirsty? I top water mine and it’s doing great but I think the consensus is usually to bottom water.

Looks maybe a little crowded as you want the stems to be on the soil so they can root in the soil. They might need a good watering as the pearls will shrivel a bit when they’re thirsty. I water mine (always top!) when the soil is completely dry and make sure the top of the soil is in direct sunlight.

mine loves bottom watering, i don’t think top watering is able to soak all the soil enough but it’s whatever your plant likes!

Personally, if I can hang them out of the pot, I have the least amount actually touching the soil as possible. Obviously a personal preference, but I find that sometimes my soul doesn’t dry out fast enough then all the ones on the top rot and die
