Okay, I’m new!! I need advice to keep my plants during the winter. I have 10 plants outside. Can I keep them in living room by window with a grow light or are they better off in basement with grow light??? I need recommendations for the type of grow light that is best. Thanks

Hi there… I live in Philadelphia and in a row home, so I have zero windows on each side of my home. The front door, two rather normal large living room windows that exist close together, and two normal large windows on my second floor in my bedroom above the living room face West. The back door, two kitchen windows under the second floor over hang, and two large windows in the bed room above the kitchen face East. When the sun comes up in the East it must clear the home behind me before it briefly hits the kitchen. Once the sun clears the other homes that light immediately comes thru those windows above the kitchen, much sooner than the kitchen. The West facing windows have a longer time of sunlight because the distance between my home and the homes across the street is separated by a sidewalk in front of each row of homes and a road for cars. Even though the other homes do not block the sun like the ones in the back it still takes the sun linger to hit the front if the house now, and it will get worse. The sun does not hit the windows until 2PM. The living room windows are done by 4:30 PM, no sun due to the other homes. The west facing bedroom windows start at 2PM also but ends around 6PM now, and getting less and less daily. This is the first year I have bought a grow light. In the past I’ve just use regular LED lightbulbs and just spread them out underneath different light fixtures in my home. I purchased a four armed LED plant light like you show in your images. Ultimately all plants live in my western bedroom from Nov 1 to March 1 or through out the house. I wanted to get a plant light instead of regular LED lights, because I wanted it to have a timer and be more specific as opposed to just using my regular lighting. I have not officially moved plants into the grow light stage, but this is where I will have them for an extra two to six hours of light every day. Excuse the bed not made yet.

p.s. From what I have read that tall plant light wont even get to any plants on the floor. The light should be much closer but not in the plants face.

A better concept view minus un-made bed.

I wish my rowhome had a skylight in at least one room. Hmm…mental note to put on destruction list. I’ve also thought about asking my neighbors across the street if they would mind if I hung a large mirror on the front of their home. But then I’d have to clean it daily and I cant do any more house chores. ☺️
