It’s Q and A time! Question and Amaryllis! Today was a soaker of a rain that came through the Philadelphia area. With there being less daylight and sun I had moved my 3 Amaryllis bulbs into a more sunny location in my back yard. They got good and watered again today and they have lots of drainage. It’s September 9th and I’m so worried about bringing them in so they can bust at the holidays that I may bring them in too early. When when when can and should I begin to help them versus letting nature take its course? The three bulbs were purchased last holiday year. One wax covered and one non-wax covered. Both of those produced red trumpet flowers. After the wax bulb was done I removed the wax and planted it. It was so happy it produced 2 more stalks with four red trumpet flowers. More than when it was enclosed in wax. The other non-wax coated bulb had an attitude of “Big deal. Such a show off.” and gave no more flowers. The third bulb was a Lowes rescue after the holidays. There were bulbs just thrown everywhere and I put them back in their boxes and wished them all good luck in find a home. As I was walking away one bulb fell outta its box and I picked it up again and purchased it. It produced 3 stalks of four huge white trumpet flowers. I probably could have and should have put all three in one pot but two are in one and one is by itself. The two images are the bulbs now and the wax bulb after I removed the wax and planted the bulb in a cylinder chinese food wonton soup take out container that I punched holes in to drain. I think because the roots also got light is why I got so many huge blooms.
