Hey plant friends. So I have a question and would Love some help. I recently purchased a pretty funny flower pot that is for a gift for a good mom friend of mine. It needs a plant but something that can withstand being over watered excessively. I will add rocks to help it drain well and I’m well aware that plants need to dry out to prevent rot and pests. This is a pot that is a little boy that when drains it goes potty. I know her kiddos will love it but absolutely will over water it even with the best intention from their momma. What plants have you had experience or know of that could withstand too much water? Picture is of the back of the pot I don’t want to offend anyone. 😂🫣 Oh and it’s could hold a good 6” potted plant.

rocks don’t actually help with drainage, i’d recommend looking into perched water tables to find out why. english ivy, many tradescantia species, and basil are a few plants i know of that love water

instead of a layer of rocks at the bottom i would change out most of the soil for a well draining mix, at least 50-60% drainage material— orchid bark, pumice, and perlite

Keep it in a grower pot that fits into the planter. That way momma can pull it out and dump excess water out. Along with those other suggestions ⬆️

It would help to drain fully and dry out.

An artificial plant is best. They look very realistic especially the succulents and cacti. No worries about overwatering.

I just saw a notification about this post (super late to see it haha) and re-read it and laughed at the size of the plant you’re asking for 🤣
