Maybe check the roots? Or change the lighting???

What am I looking for with the roots?

It looks root bound to me. I would recommend upgrading to a pot that is 1-2” bigger with a very very well draining soil mix to prevent root rot. I would clean trim away any roots that look sad or soggy and then spray clean and add a chunky chunky soil mix. I use a cactus, orchid bark mix as they prefer slight acidic well draining soil. They are drought resistant so less water is often better, they do not do well with any soggy soil. Also make sure they get indirect lighting. I can’t tell if it’s anything bug or fungus related either but it’s possible, especially if you’ve gotten any other new plants lately. I tend to use a natural preventative when I also fertilize through the summer. These sago palms prefer 18-8-18 fertilizer. And give the fertilizer the same time you water so it doesn’t burn the roots. Hope this helps :)
