I ended up getting a water filter to put under my kitchen sink, it was a game changer!

So for some plants like carnivorous plants yes you need specific water. I personally use a combo of rainwater for my sensitive plants. I use fishtank water for watering plants and misting as the waste of the fish is a natural fertilizer. But for standard watering there is a debate going around whether you should use treated water by adding a additive used by fishtank keepers called water conditioner. This helps with lowering chlorine and some mental in the water. Now keep in mind most plants are natural filtration and purifying but some plants are more susceptible to these chemicals so the theory is it’s not like the key that no one knows it’s just some people have seen a decent affect using the treated water.

Allowing city tap water to sit overnight just off-gasses the chlorine. That’s it. All the rest of the minerals, metals, pharmaceuticals, and other bleep bleep bleep found in City tapwater is still there regardless of how long you wait. The water additive for treating aquariums or tapwater is called API Stress Coat and that definitely helps. 1 drop per gallon. If you want to get really geeky, you can buy a pH testing kit on Amazon and adjust your pH balance to be closer to 6 or 6.5 ideal for most plants. All that being said, there are specific varieties of plants that are extra sensitive to lime or minerals in water, such as Calathea’s/ prayer plants, and carnivorous plants and a fair amount of orchids. Those you may want to buy distilled water for or use rain water, or even collect the drippings off back of a window a/c unit (which is basically moisture/condensation from the air).

You can actually get away with other stuff too that one in particular is one that adds nitrifying bacteria for aquariums in addition all tho not sure if it has any practical use for plants there could be but also contains aloe extract for slime coat of fish and even that doesn’t completely purify water we often use carbon filtration to completely nullify any chemicals

I use tap water that has been sitting out for at least a day. I just fill my watering can when I finish watering so it is ready for the next day. 🚿
