I’ve been trying to grow lavender from seeds for months and today I accidentally knocked the pots off my windowsill 😭. Not all the soil fell on the floor, so I was able to save that but most of the soil I had to throw away because it got dust and dog hair in it. Luckily no seeds have sprouted yet so no plants got damaged. My plan is to plant some new seeds and try again. However, I have no idea what soil to use! I have all purpose soil, as well as cactus and succulent soil. Any ideas on what I can add to the soil I managed to save? Or would it be better to buy a soil mix just for lavender?

i use all purpose potting mix for my herbs, they usually prefer a denser soil

Lavender seeds are so tiny. Whenever I start a plant from seed, I use a sterile seed starting mix. My experience is with vegetable gardening, but my gardens and seedlings have always done well. Good luck to you! OH! Use Velcro on your planters to keep them stable in your window. I knock everything over.

Thank you so much! That’s such a good idea with the Velcro… it will definitely come in handy 🤣

Seconding the sterile seed starting mix. Tiny seeds do best in fine soil without big chunks of bark or other large soil amendments.
