Hi, Apparently you can grow from avocado pits and I’ve tried a lot of times but it’s never worked. Google hasn’t helped me very much so I was wondering if anyone had managed it and could give me some tips. Thanks!

Change the water weekly. Ensure only the bottom half or less is under water so the new leaves sprout stays dry or the new growth can rot. Ensure the root end (flat section) is in the water.

I personally prefer to peel of the brown skin on seed and wrap in wet tissue and put in zip lock back then leave it and check few weeks later and once it has roots I move it into water

Thanks. I have tried the water/toothpick method but I’ll try again with the new details.
0 likesHi! I started an avocado pit with the toothpick method, also! You have to peel the brown outside skin off and know the bottom of the pit from the top. I changed the water about once a week under a grow light and let it water propagate for longer than I should have, lol. I potted it up back in April, and it took some time to get used to the soil, but she’s outside and flourishing!

i started my avocado but NOT doing the toothpick method, and i’ll share since i had success :) i wrapped the avocado pit in damp paper towels, put it in a plastic bag, and misted the plastic bag every couple days. i DID NOT fully close the plastic bag, instead just folding it so mold didn’t grow. i changed the paper towel every couple days to make sure it was damp! after about a week, a root started to grow. i waited until the root was about an inch and a half long, and then i moved it into a jar. this is it right now after three months.
