Hi Plant Community! So I am having a little trouble with all my plants and bugs. More specifically, these little gnat bugs that live in my plants soil. I have been told that they like the damp soil but I can’t just stop watering my plants to get rid of them! I’m hoping anyone has any solutions! I have tried the mist bottle with water and hydrogen peroxide but that doesn’t seem to work either 😑 Any help is appreciated and thank you in advance!

Since the gnats only live in the top few inches of soil. I would suggest bottom watering so the little gnat larvae die because there is no moisture on top. It also prevents other gnats in the future

i mix hydrogen peroxide with water (1:4) and pour over the soil, it kills everything living in the soil so supplementing with mycorrhizae is helpful afterward

I had no luck at all with neem oil, and mosquito bits helped a bit but ultimately I just repotted with uninfested soil and killed any living gnats in my room with spray 😬 I still leave sticky traps out to catch any stragglers

I agree, you have to repot. There is no getting around it. Adults lay up to 200 eggs EACH daily and their larvae live in the soil. Then mix mosquito bits into the new soil.

you could try neem oil, or sand on top and once they’re gone put cinnamon in the top layer of soil and this will keep them from coming back
