Hello Planta community! Meet Mateo. He was given to me nearly 2 years ago, but I havenât entered him into my Planta app because I have no clue what type of plant he is! I was thinking orchid, but he hasnât flowered yet. Planta IDâd him as an aloe (Iâm dubious). On the other hand, I have been watering him like a succulent and heâs doing well. Any ideas?
I donât think itâs an orchid. The leaves are much wider and they have aerial roots

It reminds me of an airplant but itâs very large.

def not aloe, possibly an agave variety?

Iâm thinking Navajo princess (Agave demeesteriana Jacobi), Iâm fairly certain itâs an agave.

You are probably right about it being an agave. Thick base on the leaves and looks stiff.
1 Like Thanks, everyone, for the great suggestions! I realized that I forgot to mention that the leaves are bendable. Theyâre about the thickness of an orchidâs leaves, but as Freedomskai pointed out, there are no aerial roots
