I have this fiddle leaf fig (I think that's what it is,) and I've noticed that the smaller leaves usually always die, slowly turning brown and shriveling up. I make sure to let sunlight in and water regularly, and I'm unsure why it's having such trouble. I live in Arizona by the way. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. Can anyone help?

Yeah it’s definitely some variety of dieffenbachia. Also, I agree with the lack of light thing but I’d also try looking at the roots and seeing if it needs repotting. You said you watered every other day or so and it being root bound might be why it’s drying out so fast.

Check for root rot as well!

If when the leaves die they are transparent, it’s too much water. If they’re transparent but and crispy honestly it may be too direct of sun. What direction does that window face?

Honestly I recommend doing a re ID of the plant then looking into care for whatever pops up. Personally I use google id and I do a spread sheet of basic care for it. Arizona is more dryer air if I’m correct so maybe more indirect sun and more humidity might help if you have an old humidifier around that should work. To know for sure tho I’d get an indoor thermo hygrometer to see what your getting as far as humidity.

Looks like a young Dieffenbachia “Tropic Snow”. This is mine. It’s much taller now. They enjoy bright indirect light and love water. Too much light can burn their leaves so if this is a really bright window, move it back some. It’ll still get enough light.
